The African tour of the head of ACOLOP is in line with some of the Association's priorities: strengthening ties with the organisation's members and getting to know the context in which they carry out their work. In Johannesburg, the president of ACOLOP and 1st Vice-President of the Macau Olympic Committee will meet with officials from the South African Olympic Committee and the International Olympic Committee. For Silvério, this type of contact is particularly important for ACOLOP and the trip to Johannesburg, after the days spent in Maputo, will give him a better idea of what is being done in Africa in terms of sport. "ACOLOP is going through a period of rapid development. After the successful organisation of the 1st Lusophone Games in Macau in 2006, preparations are already underway for the second edition, to be held in Lisbon. As this is a new association, established only about three years ago, these contacts are very important because they allow ACOLOP to be taken to other destinations where the Portuguese language has a significant presence," he said, emphasising the existence of an important Lusophone community in South Africa. "ACOLOP doesn't close in on itself and from the outset the project was intended to be open to the participation of communities throughout the world where the Portuguese language is spoken," he recalled. "This trip will undoubtedly make it possible to publicise ACOLOP's aims and work in a more pragmatic way, which do not end with the organisation of the Lusophone Games, even though that is the great moment of our associative life." Sensitising authorities The trip to Mozambique was precisely because "ACOLOP's work is ongoing and we want to get to know the reality of our members, because only in this way can we make joint efforts to improve the conditions of those with the most difficulties." In Maputo, Manuel Silvério liked what he saw and was pleased with the meetings he had with government authorities, especially the audience he had with the Mozambican Prime Minister. "Sensitising the governments of our member countries and regions to ACOLOP's work is one of our priority tasks and the Mozambican authorities are very receptive to our project," he said after the meeting with Luísa Dias Diogo. Among other topics, the meeting with the Prime Minister discussed the organisation of the second edition of the Lusophone Games. The president of ACOLOP recalled the importance of the support given by the various governments to the delegations from their respective countries and regions for their participation in the first edition of the Games. "The second edition of our great Lusophone sporting festival, which is already being prepared by Portugal, depends equally and greatly on the vision and wisdom already demonstrated by the authorities of ACOLOP's member countries and regions," he defended to the head of Mozambique's Executive. The Prime Minister began by expressing the Mozambican government's satisfaction with the presence of ACOLOP and its president in the country. Luísa Dias Diogo emphasised the importance of the Lusophone Games and gave the local context, saying that they had a great impact on the population, who followed the event with great enthusiasm. With regard to the future of the Games, the president of ACOLOP expressed his desire for Mozambique to be considered as an organiser in the future. In an audience also attended by the Minister of Youth and Sports, David Simango, the president of the Mozambique Olympic Committee, Marcelino Macome, and the Chinese ambassador in Maputo, Tian Guangfeng, Manuel Silvério also recalled the words of the Chief Executive of the Macau SAR last February, renewing a challenge to the Mozambican authorities: "We would very much like Mozambican athletes to be able to take advantage of the platform provided by Macau and make their presence felt in the world of sport in China and the Macau SAR." ACOLOP and the Association of Mozambican Writers are committed to collaboration In addition to his meetings with the Mozambican authorities, the president of ACOLOP had the opportunity to get to know Mozambique's sporting and cultural structures. The day before his departure for Johannesburg, Manuel Silvério met with Uvenal Bucuane, secretary-general of the Mozambican Writers' Association. Created more than two decades ago, the Association's main objective is to encourage and publicise Mozambican literature, and it is responsible for awarding various annual distinctions to luminaries of Lusophone literature. "With this visit, we wanted to get to know the different social structures in Mozambique, especially those that are directly linked to our project, which is both sporting and cultural, so this meeting was of great importance, an opportunity to exchange experiences, since it is an Association with great weight not only in Mozambique but also in the Lusophone world in general," concluded the president of ACOLOP. Uvenal Bucuane was particularly touched by the fact that ACOLOP, as an association with sport as its centrepiece, is focusing on culture. He emphasised that it was rare for a sports association to have a common language as the uniting element for its members. From the meeting, and given the common objects and elements of ACOLOP and the Mozambican Writers' Association, the will to create a partnership was born, in terms of content production and the exchange of experiences between the two associations.

[1

post-554","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-noticias
["GET
