Following the earthquake on 12 May, ACOLOP and the Macau Olympic Committee (COM) expressed their condolences to the victims of the tragedy. On Children's Day, ACOLOP president Manuel Silv\u00e9rio, together with 10 ACOLOP and COM staff and volunteers, who are currently in Beijing undergoing training to support BOCOG in its relations with the Portuguese-speaking Olympic Committees during the Olympic Games, encouraged students in the Beichuan area with some words of perseverance and hope for the future. Wang Pingjiu, head of the Activities Division of BOCOG's Cultural Department, was also present during the activity, which took place in the gymnasium of Peking University and was attended by more than 70 people. During the show, the representative of the \"Little Ambassadors of the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games\" programme read a letter to BOCOG from the students and teachers who survived the tragedy in Beichuan, wishing Beijing good luck in organising the Olympic Games. He also expressed confidence in the reconstruction of the affected areas and in the future. At the end, several students from Peking University, Beichuan High School and the School Attached to Renmin University of China showed their talents in a show that featured various musical, dance and magic performances. In a few words, Manuel Silv\u00e9rio encouraged the students to unite and called for willpower to recover from the difficulties they had experienced. He also encouraged young people to believe in the future through the tenacity, nationalism and unity of the Chinese people. \"The friends of Macau and the Portuguese-speaking countries and regions will always support you!\" said Manuel Silv\u00e9rio, on behalf of ACOLOP, as he presented the students with a souvenir and teaching materials.
