The message of support for ACOLOP was conveyed by the Prime Minister of Portugal, José Sócrates, at a meeting with members of the Association last weekend in Macau. Sócrates received the President of ACOLOP's Executive Committee, Manuel Silvério, as well as representatives of the national Olympic Committees who were in Macau for the organisation's 8th General Assembly, the inauguration of its headquarters and the swearing in of ACOLOP's new governing bodies. During the meeting, which took place at the residence of the Consul General of Portugal in the Macau SAR, the Prime Minister of Portugal welcomed the dynamism of ACOLOP, recalling the success of the 1st Lusophone Games, held in Macau last October. For his part, Manuel Silvério presented José Sócrates with ACOLOP's plans for the next three years, emphasising that the organisation aims above all to "contribute to the dynamism of the Portuguese language and its implementation through sport." The president of the Association's Executive Committee also contextualised ACOLOP in terms of its aims. Silvério recalled the association's history and its non-governmental nature, emphasising that it is a unique project that in no way conflicts with other organisations and projects in the Lusophone world. At the hearing, which was also attended by the Portuguese government's Secretary of State for Youth and Sport, Laurentino Dias, Manuel Silvério thanked the government for its support, as well as the Portuguese Parliament and its Parliamentary Committee on Education, Science and Culture when ACOLOP was set up in 2004. José Sócrates, who had run in Macau that same morning wearing the Lusophone Games jerseys, praised the way the government of the Special Administrative Region has dealt with the issue of the Portuguese language and the way it has supported the Lusophone sporting event. At a meeting also attended by the president of the Portuguese Olympic Committee, Vicente Moura, the Prime Minister reiterated the will of his government to ensure a good edition in Portugal, so that Lusophony becomes an ever stronger reality.

[1

post-618","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-noticias
["GET
