The RIO 2007 Pan American Games are organised by the Brazilian Olympic Committee, a founding member of ACOLOP. Manuel Silv\u00e9rio, who attended the event's Opening Ceremony and watched sports competitions alongside international sports leaders such as the President of the International Olympic Committee, Jacques Rogge, the President of the Pan American Sports Organisation (PASO) and the President of the Association of National Olympic Committees, Mario Vasquez Rana, exchanged ideas on the development of sport. The head of ACOLOP also met with the president of the Organising Committee of the 15th Pan American Games RIO 2007 (CO-RIO 2007), Carlos Arthur Nuzman, who is also president of the Brazilian Olympic Committee and 2nd vice-president of ACOLOP, and the honorary president of CO-RIO and former FIFA president, Jo\u00e3o Havelange. Manuel Silv\u00e9rio referred to the fact that ACOLOP is made up of members on four continents, with the Brazilian Olympic Committee being one of the most developed members in terms of sport; by being invited to take part in the event, ACOLOP was able to strengthen relations between its members and also increase communication with various international sports organisations. The Opening Ceremony at the Maracan\u00e3 Stadium was enlivened by dancers, percussionists and puppets, with the sun, the symbol of the Games, always present in a celebration entitled \"Viva essa Energia\" (Long live energy). The sports delegations from 42 countries entered the stadium to the sound of the Opening Ceremony theme, composed by Arnaldo Antunes and performed by singer Ana Costa. This was followed by a show that emphasised the energy of water, the sun and Humanity. Giant puppets, dancers masquerading as flowers, plants, butterflies and exotic birds danced in the famous stadium.  The president of the Brazilian Olympic Committee, Carlos Arthur Nuzman, declared the Games open on behalf of the president of Brazil, Lula da Silva, and thanked the president of the International Olympic Committee, Jacques Rogge, for all his support. \"Our gratitude for the intense support for the International Olympic Movement and in particular for the regional games - like our Pan American Games,\" he said. Following a song calling for peace performed by Chico C\u00e9sar, the Pan American torch, which travelled through 51 cities before arriving in Rio de Janeiro, entered the stadium and the pyre was lit by the winner of the 800 metres gold medal at the 1984 Olympic Games, Joaquim Cruz. The 15th Pan American Games RIO 2007 are made up of a sports programme that runs until the 29th, for a total of 17 days. The 42 PASO members are competing in 34 sports, with more than 5600 athletes taking part in the events.
