The First Lusophone Athletes' Forum concluded on 16 March in the city of Praia, Cape Verde. The event was organised by the Association of Portuguese-speaking Olympic Committees (ACOLOP) and marked the first major sporting meeting of the year. Attended by around 20 representatives from the Olympic committees of Portuguese-speaking countries, the forum's main objective was to enhance the role of athletes as agents of transformation in society. #Sport #Lusophony

The event began with a visit by the participants to the Nova Assembleia primary school in Achada de Santo António, for a moment of interaction with the children that included open conversation, games and sharing Olympic values. On 15 and 16 March, the participants had the chance to take part in various activities, including round tables and workshops, where they discussed topics such as the rights and responsibilities of athletes, as well as the training of Olympic committee members from Portuguese-speaking countries.

The event was marked by an atmosphere of collaboration and sharing of experiences among the participants, who demonstrated a strong commitment to the development of sport in the Lusophone community. Through the exchange of ideas and good practices, the athletes and representatives of the Olympic committees were able to discuss strategies to promote the growth of sport throughout the region.

The president of ACOLOP expressed his satisfaction with the success of the event and reiterated the association's commitment to supporting athletes and promoting co-operation between Portuguese-speaking countries. He emphasised the importance of events such as the First Lusophone Athletes' Forum as catalysts for the progress and development of sport in the region.

With the successful conclusion of the forum, it is hoped that this initiative will further boost collaboration between Portuguese-speaking countries and strengthen ties between athletes in the community, contributing to a brighter future for sport in Portuguese-speaking countries.
