This is how the talk "Sport for development and peace" began, which took place at the Panathlon Club of Lisbon with the participation of the president of ACOLOP, Filomena Fortes.
The vice-presidents of ACOLOP's executive committee, João Costa Alegre and Sérgio Mané, were also present at the event, which discussed the theoretical concepts that originate in sport, but also its infinite possibilities for application in the service of human and social development.
In the month commemorating the role that sport can play in peace, the president of ACOLOP met with Alexandre Mestre, a member of the Pierre de Coubertin International Committee, Maria Machado, Project Manager for the Portuguese Olympic Committee, and Vítor Serpa, journalist and moderator of the talk.
From the Olympic truce, in which war conflicts were suspended so that the Olympic Games would always be held in a climate of peace, to the role of sport in the context of medium and major conflicts, the talk at Panathlon was a moment to address different realities in which change is possible through sport.
