ACOLOP president recognised with Torch Bearer Award medal

The president of the Association of Portuguese-speaking Olympic Committees (ACOLOP), Filomena Fortes, was recognised with the Torch Bearer Award medal by the Sri Chinmoy Oneness-Home Peace Run organisation, which was visiting Cape Verde on 25 April 2024.
According to the organisation, Filomena Fortes was chosen "because of the example she has set, particularly for young women in Cape Verde, but also for society as a whole" with her pioneering path and contribution to peace and the well-being of society.
"I thank you and promise to continue spreading peace, using sport as a vehicle for uniting peoples and promoting local and world peace," said Filomena Fortes, drawing an analogy between the primary mission of the Olympic Games and the Peace Run, which are also aimed at this common goal.
The president of ACOLOP thus joins an international group of dignitaries that includes Peace Prize laureate Archbishop Desmond Tutu, the first elected president of East Timor, Xanana Gusmão, Indian human rights activist Wasfia Nazreen, among many others.
