The Association of Portuguese-speaking Olympic Committees (ACOLOP) celebrates its 20th anniversary on 8 June 2024 with a message of transformation. The opening of the new headquarters in Portugal, the desire to resume the Lusophone Games and closer relations with the 12 member committees are the highlights of this anniversary.
Since 2022, the Cape Verdean Olympic Committee has held the presidency of ACOLOP through its president, Filomena Fortes, accompanied by the São Tomé and Príncipe and Guinea-Bissau committees as vice-presidents, João Costa Alegre and Sérgio Mané, respectively.
The message of this new presidency is one of greater proximity to its members, promoting the objective of relaunching the Lusophone Games, which last took place in 2014 in Goa. To this end, the ACOLOP Executive Committee is scheduled to present a set of specifications to be launched in September this year. The competition should have a new model and structure adapted to the current context, and this will be the big news.
Also on the table is the amendment of ACOLOP's statutes to make the organisation more open and modern.
The anniversary will be celebrated in Cape Verde on the 8th, on the terrace of the Panorama hotel, with an Open Conversation on the theme "Achievements and challenges: 20 years of ACOLOP" with the specialist in Human Resources Planning, Pedro Castaño, the president of ACOLOP, Filomena Fortes, the sports journalist Marcos "Xuster" Fonseca, moderated by Leonardo Cunha, General Director of ACOLOP. The event will be broadcast directly via Zoom to member partners.
In Macau, the event will also be celebrated with an exhibition of a documentary film about athletes who took part in previous Lusophone Games, representing Macau in various sports.
