ACOLOP highlights the WISH Programme (Women in Sport High-Performance Pathway), an innovative initiative funded by the Olympic Solidarity of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), which aims to increase the participation of women as coaches in high-level sporting events such as World Championships and Olympic Games.
Lasting 21 months, the programme is structured to develop leadership skills, confidence and courage in women coaches, as well as providing personalised mentoring and specific opportunities for each sport. Since its inception, WISH has impacted 125 female coaches from 22 disciplines in 60 countries, enabling them to overcome challenges and reach prominent positions on the international sports scene.
Programme structure
- Residence in the UK: An intensive week at the University of Hertfordshire.
- Online Sessions: Eight meetings focused on leadership and mentoring.
- Sports Mentoring: Four specific sessions for each sport.
- Self-assessment and 360° Feedback: tools for identifying strengths and areas for development.
Transformative Impact
WISH fosters an inclusive and collaborative environment, helping participants to consolidate their leadership style, gain confidence to take on challenges and set ambitious goals. Data shows that more than 80% of the female coaches who took part have advanced in their careers, taking on important roles in national and international competitions.
