Historic decisions were approved during the General Assembly of the Association of Portuguese-speaking Olympic Committees (ACOLOP), held on 24 and 25 April in Cape Verde at the Oásis Praia Mar hotel: the resumption of the Lusophone Games, whose bid to host will soon be opened to ACOLOP member countries, and the holding of the next ACOLOP General Assembly in December this year in Angola.
It was also an important time to strengthen partnerships with other organisations, and important protocols and memoranda were signed with organisations such as the Panathlon Club of Lisbon, the World Flying Disc Federation and Win2Tech / Quality Media and IGNITX, which enabled the mutual commitment to cooperation and development to be strengthened.
The Lusophone Olympic Congress was dedicated to the theme "Towards a joint approach to development through sport" and brought together representatives of the national Olympic committees, sports federations, international partners and members of the Lusophone Olympic and sports movement.
During the opening ceremony, the president of ACOLOP, Filomena Fortes, emphasised the importance of the congress in promoting Olympic principles and values and contributing to the sustainable development of sport in Portuguese-speaking countries. The Deputy Minister of the Prime Minister, Dr Carlos do Canto Monteiro, officially declared the event open, emphasising the crucial role of sport as a tool for unity, development and cooperation between Portuguese-speaking nations.
Among the topics covered in the morning session was a presentation by Diogo Nabais, from the Portuguese Olympic Committee, on "Public Utility Status and CPLP Observer Status", followed by a presentation by Jorge Carvalho, Sports Coordinator for the CPLP Council of Ministers for Youth and Sport, on "Multisport Games - CPLP and Lusophony". The morning ended with a speech by Miguel Toscano, from the Ericeira Surf Club, on "Project Planning and Management in an International Consortium Environment".
In the afternoon, the focus was on digital innovation, with Andres Santi Gonzalez, an expert from the Association of National Olympic Committees (ANOC), addressing the topic of "Artificial Intelligence and the Digital Accelerator". This was followed by presentations from ACOLOP's partner organisations and international federations, which strengthened strategic partnerships and expanded collaboration to promote sport and Olympism in the Lusophone community.
The congress was broadcast live via ACOLOP's official Facebook page, allowing for wide participation and dissemination of the actions and debates that took place.
