Filomena Fortes elected 2nd vice-president of ANOCA and Costa Alegre re-elected 1st vice-president

Filomena Fortes, who is currently president of the Association of Portuguese-speaking Olympic Committees (ACOLOP) and the Cape Verdean Olympic Committee (COC), was elected Second Vice-President of the Association of National Olympic Committees of Africa this Saturday, 15 March, at the ANOCA General Assembly, which ends today in Algeria.  

The vice-president of ACOLOP's Executive Committee and president of the São Tomé and Príncipe Olympic Committee, João Costa Alegre, was also re-elected for another term as ANOCA's first vice-president.

The entire ANOCA structure was up for election this Saturday, with Mustapha Berraf (Algeria) being chosen as President, João Costa Alegre as 1st Vice President, Filomena Fortes as 2nd Vice President, Alfred Foloko (Zambia) as 3rd Vice President, Moussa Fardouza Egueh (Djibouti) as 4th Vice President and Habu Gumel (Nigeria) as General Treasurer.

ANOCA dedicates its programme to encouraging mediation and conciliation between national Olympic committees and governments, promoting sporting initiatives, Olympic ideals and values in Africa and working to unite peoples through sport in order to build peace on the continent.

The Association of National Olympic Committees of Africa (French acronym: ANOCA) is an international organisation that brings together the 54 National Olympic Committees (NOCs) of the African continent. It is currently based in Abuja, Nigeria. It was initially founded as the Permanent Committee for African Sports in 1965 in Brazzaville, Republic of Congo.
