Alejandro Martín Owono was re-elected president of the Olympic Committee of Equatorial Guinea (COGE) for the 2025-2028 Olympic cycle during the elective general assembly held on Tuesday 15 April. The ceremony was attended by João Costa Alegre, vice-president of the Association of Portuguese-speaking Olympic Committees (ACOLOP) and president of the São Tomé and Príncipe Olympic Committee.

Owono's candidacy was widely supported, with the endorsement of more than 20 national sports federations, which highlighted his leadership and commitment to the development of sport in the country. During his previous term, Owono implemented initiatives to modernise sports structures and promote excellence among athletes.
For the new term, the re-elected president proposes holding a National Sports Conference, aimed at dialogue between federations, coaches and athletes to tackle the challenges facing the sector. Other goals include the creation of an Ethics Committee, the implementation of a sports licence, the inauguration of a new headquarters for the COGE, as well as the creation of an Olympic Museum and Library.
João Costa Alegre's presence at the ceremony strengthens ties between Portuguese-speaking countries within the Olympic movement, promoting co-operation and the exchange of good sporting practices.

With this re-election, Alejandro Martín Owono reaffirms his commitment to strengthening sport in Equatorial Guinea, with the aim of reaching new heights of success and international recognition.
