Macau International Marathon 2023 closes with Outstanding International Participation

Last Sunday, the city of Macau celebrated the 42nd edition of the Galaxy Entertainment International Marathon, a sporting event that once again won the hearts of thousands of athletes and sports enthusiasts from all over the world. Organised by the Sports Bureau of the Macau Special Administrative Region Government, in collaboration with the Galaxy Entertainment group and the Macau General Athletics Association, the marathon further consolidated its position as one of the most prestigious on the Asian and world calendar.

The challenging 42.195 kilometre course took runners past emblematic sites such as the Macau Tower, the Ruins of São Paulo and the Sai Van Bridge, providing a unique and challenging experience for the participants. This year, the competition was expected to be attended by around 60,000 athletes from more than 70 countries, raising the level of competition and attracting international eyes to the city.

The event also marked an opportunity to promote bilateral relations and sporting and cultural exchange in the Portuguese-speaking community, with the Macau Olympic and Sports Committee (CODM) inviting the member countries of the Association of Portuguese-speaking Olympic Committees (ACOLOP) to take part in the race.

The athletes in the 42nd edition of the Galaxy Entertainment Macau International Marathon 2023 demonstrated remarkable skill and endurance, with outstanding results in several categories. Below are the highlights of ACOLOP's representatives:

From the Angolan Olympic Committee, Jeremias Gabriel Hoque Kandungo stood out, taking 7th place in the Men's Half Marathon with a remarkable time of 01:10:18. In the same competition, Ernestina Maria da Conceição Paulino shone by taking 3rd place, crossing the finish line in 01:23:25 in the Women's Half Marathon.

Representing the Cape Verde Olympic Committee with fervour, Samuel Varela Freire made his mark by taking 3rd place in the Men's Half Marathon with a respectable time of 01:04:59. In the same category, Liliana Maria Lima Medina consolidated her position by taking 7th place, completing the race in 01:29:32.

From the Guinea-Bissau Olympic Committee, Cristiano Francisco Mendes emerges, winner of 14th place in the Men's Half Marathon, clocking a respectable time of 01:16:25. Florence Nanque, with unrivalled determination, took 216th place in the Women's Half Marathon, completing the race in 02:04:59.

From the Olympic Association of Goa, India, Teddy Davecelia Cardozo masterfully took 7th place in the Men's Half Marathon, recording a remarkable time of 01:11:29. In the Women's Half Marathon, Ayan Soares made her mark by taking 69th place with a time of 01:50:43.

Representing the Mozambique Olympic Committee with brilliance, Titosse Taimo Passipamira stood out with 8th place in the Men's Half Marathon, recording a time of 01:11:32. And in the Women's Half Marathon, Ester Manuel Chiweia wrote her own history, taking 56th place with a time of 01:48:27.
