The Association of Portuguese Language Olympic Committees (ACOLOP) recently held a working meeting centred on the approval of the plan of activities and budget for 2026at legal consolidation of the association in Portugal and strategic reflection on the future of the Lusophone Games and the participation of its members.

During the meeting, the ongoing process of consolidation of the association's legal constitution in Portuguese territoryThis step is considered strategic for coordinating European projects and, in the medium term, for requesting the public utility status in Portugaland strengthening links with local and international organisations.

activity plan for 2026The new programme, already approved by the Board of Directors at the beginning of December, was presented and discussed with contributions from the member Olympic Committees, particularly for the sports calendar. The main actions planned include:

  • Continuing the European project "Sporting Unity"within the framework of the Virtual Exchanges;
  • Realisation of two General Meetings (one online, to approve the accounts, and the other in person, in parallel with the ANOC Assembly in Hong Kong, which will be held in Macau).
  • Celebrating the ACOLOP's anniversary and the Olympic Day;
  • Launch of a series of themed webinarsHe also spoke on topics such as artificial intelligence and Olympic Committees and good governance, safeguardinggender equality, inclusion and sustainability;
  • Maintaining collaboration with Ethica Summit of the Lisbon Panathlon Club.

Members' sporting activities

In the field of sport, initiatives promoted by members were highlighted, with a particular focus on Macau Marathonand encouraged the participation of all countries and the recovery of Brazil's presence. The "Crossing the Equator"A new swimming and canoeing event is planned for the first half of 2026, and more information is awaited from the organising committee.

Member participation and next steps

Representatives from Angola and other countries also drew attention to the financial difficulties in organising the Lusophone GamesACOLOP was invited to take a closer look at this issue, advocating more sustainable models, such as the distribution of sports across several countries and greater regularity in the organisation of events. Lusophone Games to continue with a new model

It was proposed that a new model be presented and that the Lusophone Games be postponed in line with the 2030 Youth Olympic Games. This model will be presented at the 2nd ACOLOP General Assembly in December 2026 in Macau.
