It is with great sadness that we received the painful news of the physical passing of the former president of the Cape Verdean Olympic Committee, Mr Franklin Palma. He died this Saturday at the age of 69 from a long illness.
In 2009 Franklin Palma was elected to the post of deputy secretary of the Association of Portuguese Language Olympic Committees (ACOLOP). He was also part of the creation of the Cape Verdean Olympic Committee (COC) as secretary-general and in 2006 took over as president of the COC until 2014, guided by a focus on preserving Olympic values and representing Cape Verde at major world sporting events.
The deceased was also part of the creation of the Cape Verdean Olympic Committee (COC) as secretary-general and in 2006 took over as president of the COC guided by a focus on preserving Olympic values and representing Cape Verde at major world sporting events.
He also excelled in sport as a basketball player and coach.
In 2019 he was honoured by the Praia Veterans Basketball Association as one of the pioneers of basketball in Cape Verde between 1972 and 1975.
This is a moment of consternation for the entire national Olympic family and within ACOLOP.
We wish the bereaved family our deepest condolences at this time of pain and sadness.
