Portuguese athlete José Cabeça is in the spotlight on the International Olympic Committee’s website, which has highlighted his inspiring journey towards the Milan-Cortina 2026 Winter Olympic Games.

In the article, the IOC highlights the cross-country skier’s unusual career path, having started out in triathlon and come close to competing at the Tokyo 2020 Games. After failing to qualify, Cabeça decided to switch sports, opting for cross-country skiing – an unusual choice for a Portuguese athlete.

The gamble proved to be a historic one: the athlete managed to qualify for Beijing 2022, becoming the first Portuguese athlete to compete in cross-country skiing at the Winter Olympics.

At Milan–Cortina 2026, José Cabeça took part in his second Winter Olympics, building on his career and further enhancing his international reputation.
