The project Sporting Unity has reached an important milestone with the completion of its pilot phase, marked by a hybrid session led by the Director of the Association of Portuguese-Speaking National Olympic Committees – ACOLOP, @Leonardo Cunha, which was attended by young people from various partner organisations, including @EFAT, @Maracanã and @Fundação Fidel Mendonça.
This final session provided a valuable opportunity for reflection and sharing, during which participants were able to present their experiences and the key lessons learnt throughout the programme. The session was chaired by the Director of the ACOLOP highlighted the link between the values of the Olympic Movement and the role of sport as a tool for education, inclusion and active citizenship in the Portuguese-speaking world.
One of the key moments was the final presentation by the Maracanã group, which demonstrated a strong critical perspective in addressing issues such as Olympic education, the legacies of colonialism and social justice — central themes for the promotion of fairer and more inclusive societies — on 8 April.
Throughout this project, the young people were encouraged to develop intercultural skills, critical thinking and a greater mutual understanding, in line with the values of respect, inclusion and dialogue promoted by ACOLOP.
We would like to extend our sincere congratulations to all participants and partners, with special thanks to ACOLOP and to its Director for his commitment and leadership during this final session.
This initiative once again highlights the power of sport and education as driving forces in building more inclusive, aware and connected communities.
