Brazil made history at the 2026 Winter Olympics this Saturday, 14 February. Brazilian athlete Lucas Pinheiro Braathen won the gold medal in the giant slalom, achieving a first for the country in Milan-Cortina
The 25-year-old athlete, representing the Brazilian Olympic Committee, clocked a total time of 2 minutes and 25 seconds over his two runs, having recorded a time of 1 minute and 11 seconds in the second run of the giant slalom event, one of the most traditional and technical disciplines in alpine skiing.
This achievement represents a symbolic milestone for Brazil in winter sports and cements Lucas Pinheiro Braathen’s place amongst the sport’s greats, immortalising his performance as one of the most significant moments in the country’s Olympic history.
