Guinea-Bissau makes its debut at the 2026 Winter Olympics

The Guinea-Bissau Olympic Committee’s team has concluded its first-ever participation in the Winter Olympic Games, which are taking place in Milan and Cortina d’Ampezzo, Italy, until 22 February 2026. For the first time, the nation was represented on the world’s biggest sporting stage, demonstrating that the determination and talent of the people of Guinea-Bissau transcend borders.

The athlete competed with courage, discipline and a strong Olympic spirit, honouring the national teams and leading the Guinea-Bissau flag on the international stage. Beyond these results, the country’s participation symbolises perseverance, hope and the strengthening of sport as a tool for development and national unity.

Participation in the Olympics also represents an important step towards the growth of sport in the country, encouraging investment, the development of new talent and international visibility.  This is also an opportunity to strengthen the role of the members of the Association of Portuguese-Speaking National Olympic Committees, promoting cooperation and the Olympic spirit amongst Portuguese-speaking countries
